For this project, I’m using Red Heart Super Saver as it is easy to work with, durable, and great for beginners.
Any worsted-weight 4 yarn will work for this project. If you are using a heavier yarn weight, be sure to adjust your hook size and gauge accordingly.

4mm Hook (My FAVORITE crochet hooks!)
Optional – Stitch Markers
Optional – Stitch Counter
Both stitch markers and stitch counters are very helpful for those who easily lose track of their row/stitch counts.
STITCHES & TECHNIQUES
CH: Chain
SL: Slip Stitch
ST: Stitch
SC: Single Crochet
DC: Double Crochet
TC: Treble Crochet
PATTERN NOTES
Skill Level – Beginner/Easy
Measurements – Customizable
Gauge – 20 CH = 4″
This pattern follows US crochet terms.
The success of this pattern is not dependent upon gauge or yarn type. Customize the size of your sprout by adding/removing chains or increasing/decreasing the hook size.
HEADPHONE SPROUT CROCHET PATTERN
R1: To begin, CH 31. SC 1 into each CH starting in the 11th CH from the hook (20 total). Tie off.
Leaf R1: To begin, CH 11. SL 1, SC 1, HDC 1, DC 1, TC 2, DC 1, HDC 1, SC 1. SL 2 into the last ST.
R2: Working around into the opposite side of the chain, SL 1, SC 1, HDC 1, DC 1, TC 2, DC 1, HDC 1, SC 1, SL 1. Tie off, leaving a few inches of yarn tail.
Repeat R1-2 to create the second leaf.
Next, securely tie both of the leaves to the top end of the stem using the tapestry needle and the yarn tails, placing one on each corner stitch.
Finally, weave in any yarn tails and enjoy your new sprout! Simply wrap the stem around your headphones, bag handle, or cords and secure it by putting the leaves through the loop at the bottom of the stem.
