For this project, I am using Red Heart Super Saver acrylic yarn, but any weight 4 yarn will work. Acrylic is great for beginners, especially in solid colors, and creates a nice stiff fabric that works well when crocheting bucket hats. If you’d like a hat with more drape and a more breathable feel for warm weather, I recommend using a cotton yarn such as Lily Sugar N’ Cream.

Both stitch markers and stitch counters are very helpful for those who easily lose track of their row/stitch counts.

You will need 5 leaves total to complete the hat.

Next, attach the leaves to the base of the stem using the same color yarn and the tapestry needle. Weave in any yarn tails. Then, again using the same color yarn and the tapestry needle, sew the leaf/stem section in place onto the top surface of the hat, working around the border of each leaf.
